The conference titled “Long Live Regional Science,” held on November 15, 2024, marked the launch of our institute’s conference series focusing on the development challenges of medium-sized cities. We aim to elevate this conference series to an international level with the upcoming event “Sustainable Development of Medium-Sized City Regions in Central Europe” in early 2027, inviting domestic and international researchers affiliated with our institution. Our co-organizers are the Széchenyi István University, Albert Kázmér Mosonmagyaróvár Faculty, Department of Regional Science and Rural Development, and the International Geographical Union (IGU) Commission on Local and Regional Development.
The objective of the conference is to analyze the sustainable urban development of Central European city regions by involving both domestic and foreign experts. One-third of Europe’s population and half of its urban residents live in medium-sized city regions. A further goal is to create a forum for researchers, theoreticians, and practitioners dealing with medium-sized cities, providing a platform to present research results and practical experiences, discuss theoretical and practical issues, showcase successful projects, and expand professional networks, thereby facilitating dialogue and cooperation between urban researchers and practitioners.
