The study \u2018Sometimes up, sometimes down on the seesaw: Experiencing industrial investment and disinvestment in Budapest\u2019s Ganz-M\u00c1VAG manufacturing site\u2019, authored by M\u00e1rton Berki<\/strong> and Mirjam S\u00e1gi<\/strong>, is now available.<\/p>\n

Drawing on Neil Smith\u2019s \u201cseesaw\u201d metaphor of uneven development, this paper examines how historical cycles of industrial investment and disinvestment were\/are lived, experienced, and narrated in Budapest\u2019s former Ganz-M\u00c1VAG manufacturing site. The findings show that \u201cup\u201d and \u201cdown\u201d positions on capital\u2019s seesaw were experienced in highly ambivalent and differentiated ways: socialist-era \u201cbeing up\u201d could be narrated simultaneously as security and pride, but also as constraint and frustration, while post-socialist \u201cbeing down\u201d unfolded as an affectively intense rupture, often entailing not only job loss but the withdrawal of paternalistic care, community life, and local infrastructures.<\/p>\n
