Parents\u2019 subversive temporal regime strategies and their potential beyond the pandemic&#8217;. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"TextRun SCXW139368183 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW139368183 BCX0\">The COVID-19 pandemic prompted individuals to devise new temporal strategies in various spheres of their lives <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW139368183 BCX0\">as a result of<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW139368183 BCX0\"> the spatial regulations imposed during the first lockdown. The authors\u00a0apply Lisa <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW139368183 BCX0\">Suckert\u2019s<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW139368183 BCX0\"> theoretical model of \u2018the capitalist time regime\u2019 in the analysis of 68 interviews with parents of schoolchildren in seven European countries conducted during the first COVID-19 lockdown in spring 2020. They examine actors\u2019 agency and capability to govern time during the pandemic and the extent to which disruption enables subversion of the temporal regime and its five features: measurement and commodification of time, temporal expansionism, acceleration, appropriation of the future, with the special emphasis on unequal temporal autonomy of actors. <span class=\"TextRun SCXW232451780 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW232451780 BCX0\">Expanding on Dale Southerton\u2019s analysis of the role of gender in temporal autonomy, <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW232451780 BCX0\">they<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW232451780 BCX0\"> also look at the participants\u2019 positions at the intersections of gender, age of children, profession, economic situation, and the use of the welfare system. Finally, <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW232451780 BCX0\">the researchers<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW232451780 BCX0\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW232451780 BCX0\">contextualise<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW232451780 BCX0\"> participants\u2019 creative challenges to the unequal temporal autonomy within Barbara Hobson\u2019s approach to capabilities and achievements.
